Rich Williams founded of the Sierra Stars Observatory Network (SSON) in 1997. He worked on the development of robotic telescope telescopes and observatory systems from 1996 through 2006 and was one of the founders building Torus Technologies and Optical Mechanics, Inc.
As an expert in automated remote telescope technology Rich has authored many papers and articles published in professional astronomy journals and popular astronomy magazines. He’s traveled around the world giving talks at astronomy conferences in countries in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Rich has a passion for fostering astronomy research and education and founded SSON as a way for schools, colleges and individuals to have access to professional observatory facilities at affordable rates. He is currently Chairman of the board of directors for Space Science for Schools, which promotes STEM learning methods helping teachers teach astronomy, space science, and aerospace subjects.
